Drivers can expect another change in traffic patterns on I-215 as UDOT reaches the halfway point on its improvement project. The Utah Department of Transportation said drivers can expect another shift in traffic, as lanes are directed onto the newly rebuilt pavement starting Saturday, June 13.
Crews will officially start changing the traffic patterns with overnight lane closures between State Route 201 and Interstate 80 on Friday, June 12, at 9 p.m. Robert Stewart, a UDOT region director, said keeping traffic moving while rebuilding the freeway has been a challenge, but the milestone shows the team's progress. So far throughout the project, construction crews have finished 13 bridges.
UDOT scraps Tooele road project after public comment drew mixed reactions "By shifting traffic to one side of I-215, we were able to give crews the space they needed to work safely and efficiently while keeping the freeway open," said Stewart.
"As drivers move onto the new pavement, we ask them to slow down and stay alert because this remains an active work zone. " Construction is expected to finish in summer 2027 with complete repaving of sections of I-215, 18 replaced bridge decks and 12 additional bridges repaired.
Next, drivers can anticipate that the eastbound I-80 to northbound I-215 ramp and the westbound I-80 to northbound I-215 ramp will close from June 15 through July 20. The southbound I-215 to westbound SR-201 ramp is expected to reopen on June 13. The westbound I-80 to southbound I-215 ramp is anticipated to remain closed through mid-August and the Redwood Road ramp to northbound I-215 is expected to stay closed until July 2027.
