After backups by monsoon weather yesterday, UDOT says they are working to prevent things like that from happening again.Caleb Howard used to drive I-15 from Lehi to West Valley daily.He said traffic and crashes have increased over the last few years. “I know that city planning and infrastructure have been top of mind especially recently with the influx of people coming into the valley; we know the roads just aren’t working the way we want them to,” he said.“You’re going to see that type of congestion and backups when you see this type of weather,” said UDOT spokesperson John Gleason.“We have several projects that are actually going to be focusing on Utah County because it is such an area of growth,” Gleason said.
Projects such as the Mountain View Corridor expansion on the west side of the valley will take place over the next ten years.“We’re hoping for some change and maybe some new routes,” Howard said. “That would definitely help out a lot of the people, especially with all the newcomers in the area.” Weather changes the dynamic of driving wherever people go. So when things like rain hits the pavement, slow down and give other drivers space.
