UCSF has proposed an advanced cancer therapy center in a brand-new neighborhood emerging on the site of the shuttered Potrero Power Station
UCSF is proposing to build a cutting-edge proton-beam therapy center for cancer treatment on The City’s central waterfront in the heart of a brand-new neighborhood taking shape on the site of the shuttered Potrero Power Station .
The site, which is in a historically industrial area, is just south of UCSF’s Mission Bay campus, a development that played a vital role in the transformation of former industrial and rail-yard lands into a bustling neighborhood. Associate Capital bought 21 acres in 2016. The Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a master-plan development agreement in 2020, and people could be living there within 18 months.
The project will have seven acres of open spaces — including sports facilities and a park centered on a large steel structure that housed a massive generator and a nearby 300-foot tall decommissioned smokestack — a dock, and the area’s first public access to the waterfront in more than 150 years.
