In McNeeley’s absence, Saint Mary’s transfer Aidan Mahaney has shown the ability to step up -- he went for 14 points against Xavier -- but has been largely inconsistent. He’s averaging 5.2 points after averaging 13.9 ppg the last two seasons in the WCC. “I gotta be honest and I don’t care who gets mad, these Saturday-Tuesday games gotta stop,” Holloway said in his post-game radio interview. “We have them more than anybody.
Mitchell is averaging 11.7 points and 4.5 rebounds for No. 9 Marquette, which is 17-3 and tied with St. John’s for first in the Big East at 8-1.But with McNeeley sidelined until later this month, the door has opened for Sorber to dominate and win the award.
