Uber CEO's internal memo mandates employees return to the office in April. That's a stark contrast to rival Lyft.
The company has twice postponed its return-to-office plans because of a rise in COVID-19 infections.Uber employees will soon be required to return to the office for at least a few days a week. The new policy is in stark contrast to the company's main rival, Lyft, which last week embraced a"fully flexible" model that lets staff work remotely as much as they want.
The policy applies to 35 of the company's office locations, including its headquarters in San Francisco. CEO Dara Khosrowshahi laid out the policy in a recent memo to employees that was obtained by Insider. With infections subsiding in the US, Uber, Google, and Apple have all pinpointed April as their return-to-office month., saying the company's policy is being unevenly enforced, with some staff allowed to work entirely remotely.
and forced the company to revise its policy to mandating that employees be in an Uber"hub" 50% of the time. And for one month of the year, employees were allowed to work from wherever they wanted.
