Adam Daley, a 33-year-old Uber driver, was sentenced to 16 years in prison after being found guilty of raping a passenger at knifepoint. The attack occurred after he picked up two women in Leicester city centre. Following the assault, the victim immediately called police, leading to Daley's arrest within an hour while still driving. He also admitted to possession of a bladed article, threats to kill, sexual assault, and making indecent images of a child. Police have warned there may be additional victims and urge anyone with information to come forward.
Adam Daley, a 33-year-old Uber driver, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison after a guilty verdict for a brutal knifepoint rape and other serious offences.
The incident began on December 29 of last year when Daley picked up two women outside a bar in Leicester city centre after a night out. After dropping off one passenger, he instructed the remaining woman, in her twenties, to move to the front seat. He then pulled over in a layby, threatened her with a knife, and forced her to perform oral sex. He also pulled down her top and touched her breasts.
The victim was left in the layby and immediately called 999. Police used CCTV and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras to track Daley's movements and arrested him just one hour later while he was still driving the same vehicle used in the attack. The swift action prevented further potential assaults.
At Leicester Crown Court, Daley was convicted of one count of rape, one count of sexual assault, one count of possession of a bladed article, and one count of threats to kill. Additionally, he pleaded guilty to two counts of making indecent images of a child, which were discovered during an examination of his mobile phone after his arrest. The court imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and a restraining order prohibiting him from contacting the victim.
Despite the victim's DNA being found on his penis and underwear, Daley denied the offence, concocting a story that the DNA transferred from a shared water bottle he used to wash his penis after urinating. Investigators also found that Daley drove past the victim in the layby three times after the assault. Detective Constable Matt Smith praised the victim's exceptional presence of mind and bravery.
Her immediate report allowed officers to secure crucial forensic evidence before it could be degraded and ensured Daley was apprehended before he could attack anyone else. The investigation involved extensive forensic examinations, review of CCTV, and mobile phone data analysis. During the arrest, Daley attempted to destroy evidence by grabbing and stamping on his phone. He also refused to provide a saliva sample.
Given his role as an Uber driver, Leicestershire Police has warned that there could be more victims who have not yet come forward and is urging anyone with information to contact authorities. This case highlights both the dangers of trusting ride-share drivers and the critical importance of prompt reporting in securing justice and protecting the public
