“It’s a one stop shop” for student success says associate vice provost for student successFAIRBANKS, Alaska - As the fall semester begins at the University of Alaska Fairbanks , students will find themselves with a new location to seek support for just about any issue.
Once filled with over 250,000 books, the sixth floor of the Elmer E. Rasmuson is now home to the student success center. “In this space we have the academic advising center which serves our first year students, we have the math lab and the writing center and the communication center and those are three tutorial student facing offices that help students at any stage in their classwork,” said Jennifer Tilbury, the associate vice provost for student success at UAF.
The student success center is also designed to help students who may need resources beyond tutoring or advising. This includes a supply of over 100 laptops. “What’s really exciting is we have a family room,” Tilbury said. That room is designed to help students with young families and it has toys, games and books for young children. In addition to the family room, there is “a mother’s room with a refrigerator and a comfortable rocking chair,” Tilbury said.
