The Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles chalked up their first victory in UAAP Season 86 men's basketball after defeating the De La Salle University Green Archers, 77-72, Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.Kai Ballungay also posted solid numbers for Ateneo with 18 points and 16 rebounds.
With the game hanging in the balance, Mason Amos knocked down clutch buckets to lift the Katipunan-based squad past its archrivals from Taft Avenue in Manila. This is the ninth time in their last 10 meetings that Ateneo prevailed over the Green Archers in the UAAP. Kevin Quiambao and Evan Nelle had 17 points and 15 points for La Salle, respectively, in their first loss this season.
The Blue Eagles will next clash with the Adamson University Soaring Falcons on Oct. 7, while the Green Archers will take on the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers on the same day.
