Parecía un típico concierto de U2: Dos helicópteros sobrevolaban el cielo estrellado antes de iluminar el desierto de Las Vegas y el líder Bono, cantaba arrodillado el éxito de la banda, “Vertigo” de 2004.
Aunque las imágenes del exterior se veían muy reales, fueron creadas mediante gráficos de piso a techo dentro del nuevo foro inmersivo Sphere. Era uno de los momentos más impresionantes del espectáculo de la residencia “UV Achtung Baby” de U2 en el recinto de alta tecnología con forma de globo que se inauguró el viernes por la noche.
“Mira todo esto. … Elvis definitivamente no se ha ido”, continuó Bono. “Esto es una capilla de Elvis. Es una catedral de Elvis. Esta noche la contraseña para entrar a esta catedral es: coqueteo”. La multitud incluía muchos artistas y atletas: Oprah, LeBron James, Matt Damon, Andre Agassi, Ava DuVernay, Josh Duhamel, Jason Bateman, Jon Hamm, Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, Oscar de la Hoya, Henrik Lundqvist, Flava Flav, Diplo, Dakota Fanning, Orlando Bloom y Mario López.
“Pienso que Sphere pudo haber surgido porque Jim Dolan intentó resolver el problema que los Beatles desataron cuando tocaron en el Shea Stadium”, dijo Bono. “Nadie podía oírte. No podían oírse a sí mismos. Bueno, la Sphere está aquí. … ¿Puedes oírnos?”
