The Biden administration proposed higher standards for home gas furnaces, a move that would phase out sales of cheaper heaters but save consumers money in the long run

WASHINGTON—The Biden administration has proposed higher energy-efficiency standards for home furnaces, which could cause a popular form of gas heater that lacks condensing equipment to be phased out, appliance industry officials and conservation groups say.

Gas heaters without condensing equipment are cheaper to purchase and make up about half of new gas heater sales, according to a 2016 U.S. Energy Department report.
