U.S. Navy Helicopter Crash Near San Diego Leaves Five Missing

Five U.S. Navy crew members were missing and one had been rescued after a helicopter crashed off the coast of San Diego on Tuesday afternoon, officials said

The crew members aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln took off in an MH-60S helicopter to perform routine flight operations at about 4:30 p.m. Pacific Time on Tuesday, about 60 nautical miles off the coast, the U.S. Third Fleet said. The helicopter crashed into the ocean, prompting the Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard to begin search and rescue efforts in the sea and in the air, according to the Third Fleet.

“We ask that you please respect the privacy of the families of our shipmates directly affected by this tragedy,” officials with the USS Abraham Lincoln said Tuesday evening, “and keep all of Lincoln Nation and our embarked shipmates in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.”To Read the Full Story
