San Antonio saw the most arrests for violent crime out of 10 cities targeted by operation North Star from May 10 through Sept. 13.
A U.S. Marshal 's Service led operation arrested more than 700 people accused of violent crimes in the San Antonio area over the summer. Called Operation North Star , it was a months-long push to help agencies track down fugitives who either used firearms in carrying out an alleged crime or demonstrated high-risk factors for violence from May 10 through Sept. 13.
Crime in San Antonio is down 3% amid increased police presence, police chief says San Antonio ranked first among the 10 cities targeted by the operation for stolen vehicles recovered at a total of seven. The city was ranked second among the 10 cities for both money and firearms recovered at a total $32,300 and 100 firearms off the streets. Agents even seized more than 140 kilograms of various narcotics.
