A bill that would designate the Underwater Forest, which is between 60,000 and 70,000 years old, as a National Marine Sanctuary, has passed the U.S. House of Representatives.
“The Alabama Coastal Foundation is delighted to see the broad support for this important but noncontroversial issue,” said Mark Berte, the executive director of the Alabama Coastal Foundation. The foundation is a nonprofit that has led efforts to preserve the forest. “We’re looking forward to working in the Senate for the next 11 weeks to get the bill passed.”
