Biden administration to recommend Covid booster shot eight months after second dose, two sources familiar with the discussions tell NBCNews.

for the Moderna and the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccines Thursday to allow some people with compromised immune systems to get third doses. The change was specific to patients who have been unable to mount adequate immune responses against the virus, even after having been fully vaccinated.

Since then, more than 198 million people have received at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, with more than 168 million having been fully vaccinated.
