The U.S.-Canada border will remain closed until July—here's what to expect next:
On this issue, Trudeau appears to have the support of everyday Canadians. Over the last several months, multiple surveys from a variety of pollsters have demonstrated that the majority of Canadians would rather be safe than sorry. Oneshowed that only one in four Canadians think the border should reopen immediately, while 29% say restrictions should ease sometime this summer and nearly half believe it would be best to wait until at least September.
A Canadian government advisory panel report last month recommends different protocols for travelers based on their vaccination status.As the chart, above, indicates, non-essential travelers entering Canada would jump through a progressively more onerous series of hoops depending on their vaccination status.
Partially vaccinated travelers, who have not completed their vaccine regimen more than 14 days before arrival, would be tested twice — both pre-departure and again upon arrival — and then quarantine until receiving a negative arrival test. The panel recommended adapting Canada’s free ArriveCAN app, which was introduced in April 2020 to help travelers comply with border measures. Air travelers flying into Canada are required to submit their information electronically through ArriveCAN before boarding their flight. This includes travel and contact information, a quarantine plan and Covid-19 symptom self-assessment. Travelers must be ready to show their ArriveCAN receipt when entering Canada.
