The United States launched a series of airstrikes across southern Iran on Thursday, marking the sixth consecutive night of escalated military action between the two nations.
Targets included six bridges in Hormozgan province, a major railway junction station in Bandar Abbas, an airport in Iranshahr, and a maritime control tower in the port city of Chabahar. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) did not immediately release a comprehensive target list but confirmed specific strikes, such as the Chabahar control tower.
CENTCOM described the facility as part of a maritime surveillance network operated for decades by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to monitor and target commercial ships transiting the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. A CENTCOM statement asserted that destroying the tower directly reduces the IRGC's capacity to coordinate attacks on civilian crew members and protects freedom of navigation, except for vessels attempting to violate the ongoing U.S. naval blockade against Iran.
Visual evidence emerged as Fox News published video footage showing a bridge ablaze near the coastal town of Bandar Khamir, stating the imagery was verified through visible landmarks and satellite data. Iranian media reported hearing three explosions around Iranshahr airport, with at least one American projectile making a direct hit on the facility. Additional reports indicated the Bandar Abbas Railway Junction Station was struck, resulting in injuries to two Iranian citizens.
Analysts noted that if Iran's claims about damage to transportation infrastructure are accurate, the U.S. targeting pattern appears designed to isolate Bandar Abbas-Iran's primary port-from road networks leading into the country's central region and onward to Tehran, the capital. By Friday, some normalcy returned to road traffic, though a temporary bypass was necessary around the damaged Kahurestan Junction bridge. In the aftermath, Iranian lawmakers issued stark warnings.
Amirhossein Sabeti accused the United States of targeting transport infrastructure to pave the way for the occupation of Iranian islands and key sites by separatist groups or airborne forces. He cautioned that any such ground invasion would result in heavy casualties for American forces. Another legislator, Mohammadreza Rezaei-Kouchi, declared that Iran would retaliate by targeting the infrastructure of nations cooperating with the United States.
A further escalation threat involves Iran potentially directing its Houthi allies in Yemen to resume attacks on Red Sea shipping, similar to actions taken during the Gaza War, and possibly sealing the critical Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Reuters reported that Iran has asked the Houthis to be prepared to close the Red Sea oil route should the U.S. strike Iranian power infrastructure.
According to a source close to the Houthis, the group has already deployed missiles and drones near the Bab el-Mandeb strait in Yemen's highlands overlooking Hodeidah and the Gulf of Aden and is awaiting the order to commence operations
