The U.K. reported its first death of a patient with Omicron, as Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned the country faces a tidal wave of cases of the new Covid-19 variant

Recent modeling by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine showed that even with these restrictions in place, hospitalizations could peak in January, with between 1,700 and 3,600 admitted a day. During the last major Covid-19 wave in the U.K., there were around 4,000 hospital admissions a day.
