The U.K. government has filed serious charges against Andrew and Tristan Tate, leading to their arrest in Miami. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced on Saturday, July 18, that it has decided to prosecute the siblings for further offenses including rape, arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, and offenses relating to indecent images of a child.
These charging decisions follow the receipt of a further file of evidence from Bedfordshire Police, bringing the total number of alleged victims in this case to seven. The CPS confirmed that Andrew, 39, and Tristan, 38, were apprehended by U.S. Marshals in Miami on Saturday ahead of a scheduled bare-knuckle boxing event they were expected to host.
The Tates are due to appear in a federal court early next week to begin extradition proceedings to the U.K. Prosecutors have chosen to move forward with 21 previous charges in addition to fresh counts related to four additional alleged victims, with these additional incidents allegedly occurring between July 2010 and August 2017 in London. Andrew now faces seven further counts of rape, three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and 19 additional alleged offences involving indecent images of a child and extreme pornography.
Tristan is facing additional charges for one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape, and three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation. The CPS has requested the extradition of the Tates from the U.S., and they have been arrested, awaiting extradition proceedings to the U.K. The Tate brothers, who hold dual U.S. and British citizenship, have been involved in previous international legal cases, including an unrelated sex trafficking case in Romania that ultimately folded under accusations of alleged legal and procedural improprieties.
