Labour’s historic win devastated the Conservative presence in Parliament after 14 years of rule, with Keir Starmer declaring, “Change begins now.”
Outgoing Prime Minister Rishi Sunak along with other Conservative politicians have drawn praise for their gracious concession speeches after their party took a drubbing in this year’s elections — in contrast to the tumultuous transition of power in the United States in 2021. “To the country, I would like to say first and foremost: I am sorry,” Sunak said in his final address to the nation standing outside Downing Street. “I take responsibility for this loss.
“I wish the incoming Labour government well. Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves are decent people and committed public servants … whatever our policy differences we all now need them to succeed,” Hunt said. “A message to my children … this may seem like a tough day for our family as we move out of Downing Street, but it isn’t,” he added.
