But Lue might not be the guy in Los Angeles anymore, apparently, with the news Wednesday that he and the team could not reach a deal. ESPN and other outlets reported that Lue was seeking a five-year deal, but the Lakers' offer appeared to be for three years and around $18 million. Additionally, ESPN reported that the Lakers' talks with Lue – a former player during the team's championship years of the early 2000s – may have also hit an "impasse" over the team preferring certain assistant coaches, namely former Bucks coach and NBA star Jason Kidd.

Rambis and his wife, Linda, are close with Lakers owner Jeanie Buss who considers Linda one of her best friends. Linda also works for the Lakers as the executive director of special projects. That nebulous title doesn't convey her power.
