A shop owner called police about a man who entered the store and stole a bottle of Tito’s Vodka before leaving at approximately 8:03 p.m. She told police the man took a drink from the bottle before walking to a nearby restaurant, Scileppi’s, per the arrest affidavit.
The shop owner also revealed she witnessed Lawson stumbling and believed he was intoxicated. The man then sat at the bar with the stolen Tito’s bottle. The man was later identified as Tywon Lawson. He faces a shoplifting charge since it was a theft less than $300.
Lawson’s friend, who was found holding the Tito’s bottle, was also detained but later released after officers determined he played no role in the shoplifting. The 38-year-old played six seasons in Denver.
Lawson was a candidate for the Sixth Man of the Year award after the 2010-11 campaign, where he averaged 11.7 points, 2.6 rebounds and 4.7 assists in his sophomore season in the league.
