SAN ANTONIO - A woman and her boyfriend are behind bars after her toddler was found with severe injruies

SAN ANTONIO - A woman and her boyfriend are behind bars after her toddler was found with severe injuries. On Friday, 32-year-old Tyreesha Deshay Robinson and 31-year-old Devien Marquis Wheeler were arrested after Robinson's two-year-old was found with severe burns and a broken arm.

According to court records, sometime between late May and early June, Robinson was boiling water for cooking for herself and her other children. Robinson allegedly told investigators that at some point, she left the stove unattended to take a bath with the two-year-old, and after the bath, she went to use the bathroom joined to her bedroom, separate from the child. While she left the child unattended, Wheeler, identified as her boyfriend, allegedly walked into the bathroom and poured the remaining boiling water onto the child, causing severe burns. Allegedly, upon hearing the child's screaming, the mother rushed to her child and observed the injuries. That's when Wheeler allegedly fled the scene. Court records suggest that, fearing she would lose her children to Child Protective Services, Robinson declined to seek medical treatment for her child, instead using a first aid kit to attempt to treat the child. First responders were ultimately contacted on Aug. 22. Records indicate that the child was found with burns from the top of their head, reaching down to the bottom of their torso. The child was also found to have a partly-healed broken arm, which investigators suggest would require surgery to repair. Court records also indicate that Robinson told police that Wheeler did not have a good relationship with the toddler's father, which may have prompted the attack. The mother also allegedly told investigators she was afraid of what her boyfriend might do if she sought medical care for the child. Robinson and Wheeler were arrested and charged with Injury to a Child. Devien Marquis Wheeler is being held on a bond of $300,000, while Tyreesha Deshay Robinson is being held on a bond of $250,000.
