Two women were shot on the Upper East Side Friday morning, according to the NYPD. One of those women has died and another is in the hospital, police said.
A mother and grandmother are dead following a shooting on the Upper East Side Friday morning that police are investigating as a murder-suicide stemming from a custody dispute, according to the NYPD.
The shooting happened on East 88th Street between York Avenue and East End Avenue. The FDNY said it responded to the scene just before 9 a.m. Officers arrived on the scene on East 88th Street and found a woman in the street near the rear of a parked Honda Civic and a second woman lying on the sidewalk, police said. Both women were shot in the head, the NYPD said.A one-year-old child was found sitting in the back of the car and was unharmed in the shooting, police said.
The shooter is believed to be the child's grandmother, a retired probation officer from Illinois who has been living in New York City for three years, police said. Two guns were recovered by police, who said they are not searching for any additional suspects. The victim is said to be the child's mother who was shot while loading a stroller unto the car's truck, according to police.The motive for the shooting is being investigated as an ongoing domestic dispute, which resulted in multiple domestic incident reports and complaint reports, according to police related to a custody battle.
