Police arrested two women on Friday who were involved in the stabbing death of a Gary man earlier in the week.
Investigators with the Lake County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force and Gary Police Narcotics Detectives around 2:30 p.m. Oct. 20 served a murder warrant in the 8000 block of North Drive in Highland and arrested an 18-year-old Highland woman, Gary Police spokesman Cmdr. Sam Roberts said in an email Friday. Then police went to a motel in the 8200 block of Louisiana Street in Merrillville arrested a 25-year-old Michigan City woman. Ruben Ortiz, 23, of Highland, was charged Oct.
The Impala driver pulled up near the empty lot, and Ortiz and the woman got out and started to attack Gonzalez, who had walked over to the car. Ortiz kneed the woman who’d had her stuff taken in the face; she then saw Gonzalez face down about 20 feet away. “This is because of you,” the Impala driver, holding a hammer, told her. Hours later, a witness at the Hard Rock Casino flagged down a security guard, pointing to a man and woman in the parking lot.
