MATAMOROS , March 8 — Two of the four US citizens kidnapped in crime-plagued northeastern Mexico were found dead yesterday, prompting a vow by Washington to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

Hours later, a convoy of about 20 vehicles including ambulances was seen traveling from the prosecutor’s office to one of the border bridges connecting Matamoros with the US city of Brownsville. It offered a US$50,000 reward for help leading to the return of the unidentified victims and the arrest of the perpetrators.

He told reporters that Washington was still learning about details of the incident from Mexican officials. “We send our condolences to the families of the victims, to friends, to the people of the United States, to the US government,” he said.Matamoros, located across the US border from Brownsville, Texas, is one of the areas of Mexico most affected by drug trafficking and other organised crime.
