The teens, ages 15 and 16, are charged with manslaughter.
MOSS POINT, Miss. - Interim Moss Point Police Chief Dennis Stevenso n said two teenagers have been charged after a stray bullet pierced the home of a 47-year-old man and killed him on New Year’s Day. The teens, ages 15 and 16, are charged with manslaughter.
Moss Point Police are still searching for a third teenage suspect. Stevenson said it happened when a firearm was discharged at a New Year’s celebration near River Pine Drive around 8 a.m.According to Stevenson, when police arrived, Joseph Whitt was found inside his home on the floor, dead from a gunshot wound. Stevenson said police think the shooting was accidental, but it is something that he had warned about ahead of the new year. The interim chief posted to Facebook on December 29, urging people to “be mindful of the safety and well-being of those around you.” In the post, Stevenson went on to say, “One important concern during New Year’s celebrations is the discharging of firearms as a form of celebration. Although it may seem harmless to some, firing guns into the air is extremely dangerous. Every bullet fired must come down, and it can cause serious injury, damage to homes and vehicles, or even loss of life, often to innocent people who are simply celebrating or resting in their homes.”Reality TV star accused of killing cellmate, police say
