Two teenagers were arrested Thursday in connection to the fatal shooting of a 30-year-old man at a South Dallas apartment complex in March.

Surveillance footage from the scene shows Lair was watched by four people, at least one of whom was carrying a rifle, as he walked to his apartment complex, police said in an arrest-warrant affidavit. The four approached Lair once he reached the property and spoke with him before shooting him multiple times.

Investigators said the shooting may have been in retaliation to a “physical disturbance” with his girlfriend, who investigators identified as the mother of Brooks. Thursday, police arrested Alonzo Simpson and Brooks while driving a car Brooks’ mother identified as her son’s. Police said in the affidavit Simpson admitted to owning a rifle. He said he brought the firearm and Brooks brought a pistol because Lair was known to carry a gun, according to police. Police said rifle and pistol bullet casings were recovered at the scene.

Simpson told investigators an argument ensued at the location, and Lair pulled and fired a revolver at the four, according to the affidavit. Simpson said he took the rifle which he hid in his pants and fired at Lair multiple times, police said in the arrest-warrant affidavit. Investigators said a revolver recovered at the scene near Lair had spent bullet casings, but it is unknown when the gun was fired.
