Two individuals were shot and injured on Sunday night in separate incidents in Manhattan and Brooklyn. The second shooting happened in East New York around 9:30 p.m., where a 16-year-old boy was shot in his arm and groin.

NYPD officials said officers responded to a 911 call about an assault in progress and found two males who were approximately 16 to 20 years old with gunshot wounds throughout their bodies.
The incidents come at the start of a new year where gun violence has already broken out in parts of New York City, in some cases fatally. Police said a 41-year-old man who lived in Briarwood, Queens, was shot and killed in Brooklyn's Coney Island around 7:15 a.m. on Sunday. They also said a 17-year-old boy who lived in Inwood, Manhattan, was shot to death in the Bronx's Mount Eden neighborhood around 6 p.m. on Friday, while another 17-year-old boy was shot and injured in the same incident.in a shooting outside a school in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, as students returned from the holiday break, police said.
