Two people said to be responsible for the 2017 fire at the Royal Suite Lodge that killed three and injured several others were sentenced Monday morning to 24 years in prison. Andrew John Eknaty, 36, and Carleigh Kaye West, 35, previously pleaded guilty to three counts of manslaughter and one consolidated count of first-degree assault.

Alaska State Troopers said an overdue hunter was found mauled to death Wednesday after search and rescue crews were sent out to find him. The Blood Bank of Alaska is asking for critical donations, saying it needs all types of blood, but specifically O+ and O-. The City of Kotzebue is continuing efforts to assess damage and repair homes as cold weather sets in, but they did receive some help over the weekend. The Western Alaska community located 33 miles north of the Arctic Circle was flooded and sustained great damage due to high winds and strong storms earlier in October. Members of the Alaska Organized Militia — along with local responders and statewide support teams — were able to provide recovery assistance to those in need.
