Two San Antonio police officers have been placed on administrative leave after fatally shooting a man and a teenager during a car chase downtown. The incident occurred near City Hall, where officers attempted to stop a reported stolen vehicle. The driver, Nathaniel Ray Moreno, 19, died at the scene. His passenger, 15-year-old Nicholas Rodriguez, died later at a hospital.

The San Antonio Police Department has identified the two officers involved in a police chase downtown that resulted in the deaths of a man and a teenager. The officers, Aaron Coronado, a five-year veteran of the force, and Jimmy Nance, with three years of service, have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. The shooting took place on Thursday near City Hall, at the intersection of North Flores Street and West Commerce Street.

Two officers opened fire on a man and a teenager who were evading police in a reported stolen car. Nathaniel Ray Moreno, 19, with a prior record of car theft, died at the scene. The Bexar County Medical Examiner ruled his death a homicide caused by a gunshot wound. Moreno's mother, Lisa Rodriguez, identified her son as the driver. Moreno's 15-year-old passenger, Nicholas Rodriguez, was also struck by gunfire and died Saturday at a local hospital. The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office is working to determine the cause and manner of Nicholas Rodriguez's death. Officers had attempted to stop the car using spike strips. During the pursuit, the vehicle struck another car and knocked down a traffic pole. Police boxed the car in with their patrol vehicles, but Moreno did not comply with officers' commands and continued to evade them. At one point, Moreno struck patrol vehicles and a parked car, driving toward officers on foot. According to San Antonio Police Department Assistant Chief Robert Blanton, officers felt threatened and discharged their firearms. It is unclear if Moreno and his passenger were armed or specific details about the number of officers involved. Moreno's mother told the San Antonio Express-News that her son was struggling with mental illness and drug addiction before the shooting. While acknowledging her son's actions, she questioned whether his death was necessary.
