Two prisoners from San Diego County suspected of killing fellow inmate in Folsom prison [Breaking]
Two prisoners from San Diego County are suspected of killing a fellow inmate in a Sacramento County prison, state officials said Sunday. This is the second time one of the men, Gregory Roach, had been accused in the death of another inmate.
The most recent incident occurred about 2:15 p.m. Saturday at California State Prison, Sacramento in Folsom. Roach and Tyler Yates, allegedly attacked 33-year-old Nathan Marcus in one of the prison’s recreation yards, state officials said. Staff members at the prison used chemical agents to break up the fight and performed life-saving measures on Marcus, but he died soon after.Marcus was sentenced in 2013 in San Joaquin County to four years in prison for evading or attempting to evade a police officer while driving recklessly and possessing drugs for sale. While in prison, Marcus was sentenced to another six years for possessing or manufacturing a deadly weapon as a prisoner. Roach, also 33, received a 12-year prison sentence in 2019 for seriously beating a fellow inmate in a San Diego County jail,. During the beating, Keith Vincent Gill, 58, suffered a skull fracture and several facial fractures, fell into a coma and later died, county officials said. It was the second time Gill had been beaten up that day, and although the manner of death was homicide, a deputy medical examiner couldn’t determine whether the injuries Gill suffered during the first beating also contributed to his death. The other suspect, Tyler Yates, was sentenced in San Diego County to 8 years in prison for first-degree burglary and assault. Both Roach and Yates were re-housed in the prison’s segregation unit while investigators look into the killing.
