Two Pittsburgh Steelers legends, Hines Ward and James Harrison, are inching closer to becoming Hall of Famers.
FILE - In this Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011 file photo, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward runs past Jacksonville Jaguars defensive back Drew Coleman after making a catch in the second quarter of an NFL football game in Pittsburgh. First-year eligibles LaDainian Tomlinson, Hines Ward, Jason Taylor and Brian Dawkins are among 26 semifinalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame's class of 2017. In addition to Ward and Harrison, kicker Gary Anderson advanced in the voting, too.
Ward won two Super Bowls with the Steelers during his storied 14-year career with the team. The Korean-born Ward excelled as a blocker and receiver, earning the Super Bowl XL MVP and three All-Pro nods. Harrison, the 2008 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, was one of the most fearsome sack artists of the 2000s. Known as ‘Deebo,’ Harrison dominated the AFC North for years after the Steelers signed him as an undrafted free agent. In his third year of eligibility for the Hall of Fame, Harrison was a four-time All-Pro selection and retired as the franchise’s leader in sacks. Cameron Heyward and T.J. Watt have since usurped that.
