Two people have been arrested in connection with the theft of a R50 000 boxing belt from the Nelson Mandela Museum on 2 July.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello, intelligence information led to the arrest of a 33-year-old man in Alberton and he led police to a 42-year-old woman on Tuesday. Both of them appeared in the Orlando Magistrate's Court on Thursday and the case was postponed to 27 July. "The other suspect who is reported to be in possession of the belt is still at large. Anyone who may have information is requested to report to the police on the Crime Stop line at 08600 10111 or anonymously via the My SAPS app. The police investigation continues," Sello added.
The Nelson Mandela Foundation previously told News24 that"the belt was gifted to Madiba by Sugar Ray Leonard because of his love of boxing.
