Two shootings in Oakland, California, within 10 minutes of each other resulted in one fatality and one non-fatal injury. Police are investigating both incidents.
One man was killed and another man wounded in two shootings that happened about 10 minutes apart Wednesday evening in different areas of the city, authorities said. The name of the 25-year-old man killed was not immediately released pending notification of his family. Police have not said where he lived. The man, who was wounded multiple times, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased, authorities said. Police did not release a suspected motive for the killing.
No arrests were announced and no suspect information was released. The non-fatal shooting happened about 5:28 p.m. at a homeless camp in the 1600 block of East 12th Street, authorities said. Initial reports were that a 45-year-old man, who did not live at the camp, was walking with some other people when they were confronted by a man with a shotgun who apparently did live at the camp, authorities said. The armed man asked the other men what they were doing in the area; when they did not immediately respond, he began shooting at them, authorities said. The 45-year- old man was struck in the leg. He was taken to a hospital and was in stable condition. The suspect fled before police responded to the scene. The fatal shooting was the second homicide Wednesday investigated by police and the eighth since last Thursday, including three on New Year’s Day.
