Early Thanksgiving morning, Marina Police arrested two Oakland men after they led authorities on a short pursuit in a stolen vehicle.
Thursday, at around 3 a.m., a Marina police officer initiated a traffic stop in the area of Imjin Parkway and Preston Drive after observing a vehicle commit multiple traffic violations. The driver of the vehicle “decided he was not going to stop,” police said in a news release and led the officer on a short vehicle pursuit.
During the pursuit, the vehicle was unable to maneuver through the roundabout at Reservation Road and Lake Drive. It proceeded to lose control, run off the roadway and end up in the vegetation surrounding the Locke Paddon Park Pond. The occupants of the vehicle then fled into the vegetation, police said.
With assistance from university police at CSU Monterey Bay and two Monterey County Sheriff’s Department K9s, Marina police set up a perimeter of the park. Following an extensive search, the K9s were able to locate the two suspects – Angel Lopez, 23, and Christ Solano, 23, both of Oakland. After discovery, Lopez and Solana were first transported to a local hospital as a precaution due to being involved in a vehicle collision. Upon their release, they were booked into Monterey County Jail.
Meanwhile, a search of the vehicle they were in revealed that Lopez and Solano had tools that are commonly used to steal catalytic converters from cars. These included a floor jack and multiple cutting tools. Authorities also found two catalytic converters that appeared to have been cut from a vehicle. .
