Sabrina Benayoun, a senior at Jericho High School, had her pick of about 30 Advanced Placement classes, more than 50 extracurricular clubs and field trips to Quebec and Paris. She tackles robotics in a lab with its own laser engraver. “I feel very grateful for so many opportunities,” she said.
Jahshua Taylor, a senior in nearby Westbury High School, has far fewer resources. He navigated overcrowded buildings, large classes and a packed guidance office where his college counselor juggles a caseload topping 300 students....
