The government’s new script reforms are a “big win” for people who suffer from chronic illness as Australians can access scripts for two months of medicine, says Australian Medical Association Vice-President Dr Danielle McMullen.
“For those people, it will mean a halving of the cost of their medicines,” Dr McMullen told Sky News Australia.
“For many people on chronic medications that they take every day, it means they will only need to go to the pharmacy once every two months instead of every month – and only need to come to see their GP once a year … instead of every six months. “So it really is a win in terms of cost and convenience for patients while maintaining that safety of medicines that we really value in Australia.”

He said out of the nearly one million Australians who served in World War Two, it’s believed “only about 5,000” of those veterans are still alive today.
