On 12 August, the Hawks’ Bellville based National Priority Violent Crime team, rearrested two accused in connection with a cash-in-transit robbery which occurred last week, reportsThree of the five wrongdoers appeared in the Magistrate Court last week Thursday.This was because the accused were not charged within 48 hours after being arrested, as the law mandates.

Sihle Mabhongo and Simphiwe Mzanywa were in hospital during this time, as a result of being wounded in the shootout which ensued. Both these men were allegedly involved in the incident which occurred on the 5 August, where they were caught with an array of firearms, explosives and ammunition.The two are charged for possession of illegal firearms and ammunition, possession of explosives and attempted murder.

According to Siyabulela Vukubi, the spokesperson for the Western Cape Hawks, Mzanywa appeared in the Khayelitsha Magistrate Court on 13 August. Here, it was established that he is currently on parole for a separate matter for which he was arrested in 2022 and released in 2023.The matter has been postponed to Thursday, 15 August for bail profiling and monitoring of Mabhongo’s progress in the hospital.
