Michael Mayse and Gary Shahid, members of the Stephen Crane Village drug trafficking organization, were found guilty of drug conspiracy, weapons offenses, and murder.
Two men, one of them a leader of the Stephen Crane Village drug trafficking organization, were convicted of drug related charges and murder on Monday, officials with the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday.
The organization used an apartment at the housing complex as a stash house for various narcotics including heroin, fentanyl and cocaine base, officials said. The organization sold “significant quantities” of drugs to confidential sources and undercover agents during the investigation, officials said. The investigation was conducted as part of the Newark Violent Crime Initiative, which draws on a partnership between local, county and federal authorities including the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the DEA, ATF, Essex County Prosecutor’s Office and Newark Police Department to investigate and combat violent crime in and around Newark.
