Two suspects have been apprehended and charged in connection with the tragic shooting deaths of two Chicago high school students during their lunch break in downtown Chicago last year.

Two men have been charged in the fatal shooting of two high school students in downtown Chicago last year. James Allison, 20, was arrested on Monday in Crown Point, Indiana, and charged with two counts of first-degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm, and aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon. Another suspect, 22-year-old Tommie Coleman, was arrested last week and faces similar charges.

Prosecutors said that Allison, Coleman, and a third suspect who has since died had a history of disputes with the victims, 16-year-old Robert Boston and 17-year-old Monterio Williams, who were childhood friends and classmates at Innovations High School. The shooting occurred on January 26, 2024, as Boston and Williams were walking on their lunch break near the Washington/Wabash CTA station. According to prosecutors, Coleman, Allison, and the third suspect, all wearing masks, drove up in a stolen Infiniti SUV, got out, and opened fire on the victims. Both Boston and Williams were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where they were pronounced dead. After the shooting, the three gunmen fled the scene in the SUV. Detectives later obtained an Instagram video showing the three suspects in the Infiniti, singing about wearing masks and riding in a stolen car before getting out and shooting someone. At least one witness identified Coleman, Allison, and the third suspect as the shooters after viewing this video and other videos on YouTube. Surveillance footage from Innovations High School also placed Allison at the school about 90 minutes before the shooting and later getting into the SUV involved in the crime. Coleman appeared in court on Saturday and was ordered held in jail while awaiting trial. Allison is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday. Authorities have not released the name of the third suspect who died
