Two men accused of killing Senzo Meyiwa beef up legal team amid confession challenge
Five accused men in the Senzo Mayiwa murder trial sit in the dock at Pretoria High Court on 17 July 2023 in Pretoria.Five men are on trial for the murder of Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa who was shot dead in Vosloorus on 26 October 2014.
Bongani Ntanzi, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Mthobisi Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa, and Fisokuhle Ntuli appeared in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Monday, where they are on trial for Meyiwa's murder. After introducing himself, Mngomezulu told the court that he wanted to recall two witnesses - Colonel Mhlanganyelwa Mbotho and Constable Nakedi Monareng - for cross-examination.Mbotho and Monareng were the first two of the State's witnesses to give evidence in the trial-within-a-trial on Friday. The court heard that both accused signed the confession statement and pro forma document were signed by both Mbotho and Sibiya, who also put his fingerprint on each page.
It allegedly stopped when Mbotho entered the room and called Sibiya to one side, where he told him to sign a document or face further assault. Monareng was the Ekurhuleni metro officer who took Sibiya to the Diepkloof police station where Mbotho was.
