Reports from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office state that the first of these two incidents took place just before 11 p.m. Saturday night.
The victim, an adult male in his late 30s, was riding a sport-bike-style motorcycle southbound on Lane Avenue South. For an unknown reason, the victim left the roadway and struck a utility pole and a rock wall.
He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. JSO is still trying to determine what caused the crash. They are encouraging any witnesses, who did not speak to police on the scene, to contact the JSO Traffic Homicide Unit if they saw the crash occur.The second traffic fatality took place around 12:45 a.m.
The two vehicles collided on Beach Blvd and the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger of the truck was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the truck remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. JSO states that they are looking into speed and impairment as possible factors in the crash.This incident marks the 145th traffic fatality in Duval County this year, and the 33rd involving a motorcycle.
