At least two people have been taken to hospital after an aircraft carrying a pilot and five passengers hit terrain on the way to landing.

The aircraft was carrying a pilot and five passengers and landed at Groote Eylandt, an island in the Gulf of Carpentaria that has a population of about 3,000 people.
