KOTA KINABALU: Two men were arrested while a tug boat was seized for offences under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952 in waters off Labuan on Wednesday (April 12).
The two Indonesians, one a skipper and the other a chief officer, were nabbed after they were found to have not reported the change of captain in the Certificate of Malaysia Registry.
Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency deputy director for Labuan, Mohd Hafiz Abd Mutalib said they were nabbed during ongoing operations at the area close to Pulau Papan. “The suspects and the vessel have been taken back to the Labuan Maritime Jetty for further investigations,” he said in a statement Thursday .
He said the MMEA would not compromise on any unlawful activities at sea and the public are welcome to provide information of any suspicious activity to the agency at 087-453 777 or 999.
