KUALA LUMPUR: The detection of a beer smuggling syndicate active in the Klang Valley led to police busting another syndicate dealing in forged stamp duties, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) documents and Malaysian visas.
Federal Internal Security and Public Order director Comm Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said a team from their Intelligence and Special Investigations Division launched the operations in Kajang on Wednesday and arrested nine Malaysians and eight Myanmar nationals aged between 24 and 51.
"We seized 78,120 cans of smuggled beer worth RM325,000, a Volvo lorry, a Toyota van and RM8,000 in cash.He said the suspects were being remanded at Kajang police headquarters for a week to facilitate investigations under Section 135 of the Customs Act 1967 for possession of alcoholic drinks with unpaid duties.
"We arrested two Malaysians, a Bangladesh man and an Indonesian woman, aged between 55 and 70, in these raids," said Comm Acryl, adding that they also seized 104 holographic stamps for Immigration Department, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, as well as the Indonesian government.
