Two groups have stepped up and filed friend of the court briefs on behalf of former Portage Mayor James Snyder in his quest to have the U.S. Supreme Court consider overturning his public corruption conviction.
One pursues “the defense of constitutional liberties” and the other is committed to “identifying and reforming flaws, and inequities in the criminal legal system.”The American Center for Law and Justice filed its brief Friday, while the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys filed theirs on Tuesday.
The National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, meanwhile, argues in its filing of support for Snyder’s case that the case is “Exceptionally Important And Impacts Tens Of Millions Of Government Employees And Private Citizens.” The association said in its filing that it’s “a nonprofit voluntary professional bar association that works on behalf of criminal defendants to ensure justice and due process for those accused of crime or misconduct” with “nationwide membership of thousands of direct members and up to 40,000 affiliates.
