“I’ve never been the kind of person who daydreamed about a big, traditional wedding, so I never imagined wearing a typical wedding dress, either,” writes Kristen Bateman.
When my husband Jason and I decided to get married, the most luxurious thing I could think of was eloping and telling no one, all while wearing as many elaborate dresses as possible. I wouldn’t tease it on social media – no posting about the getting ready process, no publicising shopping for a wedding dress. The wedding would just happen. And for both me and my husband-to-be, it would entail less planning, less stress, and – frankly – less worrying about people other than ourselves.
I tried every option I could find in my closet before ordering, and then returning, at least 10 other layering options. I’d almost given up, when… there she was: a silver metallic Simone Rocha minidress with puff sleeves, discovered online. It was the perfect companion to the Noir Kei Ninomiya garden of black and pink wearable flowers, creating a burst of shining silver fantasy. This was 100 per cent my New York nuptials look.
