A tragic incident in Volusia County saw an 8-year-old boy lose his life after being attacked by two dogs. The dogs, described as a pit bull and a mixed breed, were known to have terrorized the neighborhood prior to the fatal attack.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is investigating the fatal attack of an 8-year-old boy by two dogs. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. on Tuesday near Arabesque Drive and Airport Road. According to Sheriff Mike Chitwood, the boy was riding his bicycle with a friend when he stopped to pet one of the dogs, described as a pit bull and a mixed breed. The attack was swift and brutal, leaving the boy with horrific injuries.
Despite the efforts of witnesses who called 911 and performed CPR, the boy succumbed to his injuries. Chitwood emphasized that the dogs had a history of terrorizing the neighborhood, having been seen destroying property and harming animals. He urged anyone with information about the dogs or their owner to come forward. Animal Services officers captured the dogs and placed them in a mandatory 10-day quarantine. The owner has the option to appeal the quarantine, but the Sheriff stated that his office is working with the state attorney's office to ensure the dogs are ultimately euthanized. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are determined to hold the owner accountable for the tragedy
