Two adolescent boys accused of allowing a pair of dogs to engage in a vicious attack on a cat surrendered to authorities in Philadelphia on Friday.
A 17-year-old and 12-year-old walked into the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Philadelphia with a parent Friday afternoon to"address" charges against them, the SPCA said in a statement the Washington Examiner.
"As the attack continued, a person or persons can be heard on the video encouraging the dogs to continue attacking the cat until a resident of the property comes out to intervene on behalf of the cat," the SPCA said."Buddy sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to the Pennsylvania SPCA's Philadelphia headquarters and ultimately to an emergency veterinary care facility to receive round-the-clock monitoring.
Both dogs involved in the incident have been taken into custody by the Pennsylvania SPCA. Buddy is in critical condition, though his"prognosis is cautiously optimistic," according to SPCA."While this act of cruelty was especially shocking in its intentional nature, the outpouring of support for Buddy the cat and the effort to bring the offenders to justice has been overwhelming," said Pennsylvania SPCA CEO Julie Klim.
"While we certainly see a lot of bad as we fight to end animal cruelty, we also see how much good there is, especially in a case like this, from all corners of the globe," Klim added."We will do everything humanly and medically possible to ensure Buddy's future will be a bright one."
