San Diego-Fire Rescue was called to the 2100 block of Beyer Boulevard just before noon Friday after receiving reports of a body in the water.
SAN DIEGO — Two bodies were found at Otay Valley Regional Park in the South Bay, as family and friends of a missing 15-year-old gathered nearby, hoping neither is him.
San Diego police closed off the area around Fenton Pond inside the park Friday. As of Friday evening, investigators are unable to identify either body. Julian Guerrero, 15, has been missing since late Thursday night. His mother and neighbors have been searching for him ever since.
Guerrero's mother said she is worried because he is autistic. Earlier Friday, she saw her son's bike being ridden by a stranger who told her he found it at Fenton Pond. The two bodies were found in unrelated circumstances and at two different areas of the park. Officers pulled one body from the water, which appeared to be that of a Hispanic teenage male.
That body has been turned over to the medical examiner. A family friend described Julian's mother as struggling while waiting for answers.
"Once she didn't answer me because she would she would answer me at all times of the day yesterday and today the whole day until she found out she stopped answering the phone which I don't blame her," Lisette Carrillo Mejia, Julian Guerrero's neighbor, said. The second body was found across Beyer Boulevard in the west part of Otay Valley Regional Park. That area falls under Chula Vista's jurisdiction.
A spokesperson said the person found lying next to the pond — not in the water — was a 60-year-old unhoused man. That death does not appear to be a crime.
